Synopsis

Rex Bixby is a virtual reality developer whose newfound success is abruptly halted by an unexpected layoff and a terrifying pandemic. Trapped in isolation, Rex grapples with his shattered dreams. Just when all hope seems lost, a surreal opportunity unveils a kaleidoscopic adventure into the heart of a virtual underworld.

Based on True Events

This film is directly inspired by Dillon Joseph’s experience as a developer of one of the most immersive VR platforms in the world, and the sudden loss of everything he had worked for due to the pandemic.

The Journey

Rex Bixby captures a unique period of the pandemic, exploring the paranoid uncertainty of the times through experimental visuals and an immersive soundscape. 

During the 2020 lockdown, Dillon and his partner Jennifer found themselves jobless and in isolation, with a soon-to-be-ending lease looming overhead. With no money and no script, and some loose ideas, they spontaneously created a feature film using Dillon’s iPhone. The process of making the movie challenged them to sit with the loss of unfulfilled dreams.

Jennifer Alvarez and Dillon Joseph have explored mischief, art, and science for the past 16 years. From processing film and printing photos in motel bathrooms as teenagers, to researching together at NASA, they continually challenge one another in their curiosity and artistic passions.
